Banning, California – November 11, 2021 – The Lakes, an Assisted Living and Retirement Community in Banning, CA, celebrated of four of their World War II Veterans at the Palm Springs Air Museum 25^th Anniversary Celebration.

Colonel George Hammett, age 103, United States Army Air Force, along with Technical Sargent Larry Cox, United States Army Air Force, and Radarman Petty Officer 2nd Class Andy Russo, and John Barry, United States Navy, were each given a personal tour of the facility depicting many of the World War II aircrafts in which some of them flew during the War.  For these heroes, it was a time of re-living many experiences, structuring memories, and gratitude for their lives.

The Veterans also enjoyed first class treatment with a prepared lunch and front row seats at the program. "It is an honor for our Residents and Staff to be able to attend such a prestigious celebration," said Mrs. Evie Lynn, Owner. “It was an emotional and patriotic event which was attended by hundreds of family members, and friends of the honored pilots and veterans.”

During this celebration family members and guests heard from three Vietnam War Navy Pilots as they recounted their heroic flight experiences during the Vietnam War.  The Palm Springs Museum of Flight also unveiled a refurbished A-7 airplane, the same in which they piloted many years ago. To their surprise, the air museum dedicated a replica to Hammett, Cox, Barry and Russo; they were also able to personally sign their names on the plane.
